GOSS Minister of Internal Affairs, Cde. Gier talks about the security situation in the South…
JUBA (Jul 20) – The overall security situation in South Sudan has improved over the past month except for some minor incidences in Western Equatoria and Abyei Administrative Area, according to comrade Gier Cuang, GOSS minister of Internal Affairs.
Minister Gier Cuang made the statement on Tuesday at a weekly “Minister of Information’s Media Forum,” where he was the guest speaker.
In Abyei, the border area of the nine Ngok Dinka chiefdoms transferred to Kordofan in 1905, the Messiriya have tried to move in Dinka Ngok areas raising tensions.
In Western Equatoria State, the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) have been spotted around Tombura, Ezo and Yambio towns causing some villagers to temporarily relocate to safer areas.
However, the Minister assured that these reports do not pose any serious security threats as the authorities are already tackling the issues as they come in.
Cde Gier further told the forum that the security organs were able to control and improve the security situation in a number of states.
The militia under the command of Galwak Gay who used to rob and terrorize locals in Unity State have been “flushed out”, said the minister, adding that the oil fields of Upper Nile State are safe as well.
Cattle wrestling in Jonglei, Lakes, Warrap and Eastern Equatoria States have reduced, thanks to events from local chiefs and the hard hand of the law.
The weekly “Minister of Information’s Media Forum,” organized by the Minister of Information Cde. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin is held every Tuesday of the week with one guest speaker from the Government of South Sudan (GOSS). Last week’s guest speaker was Dr. Anne Itto, Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development where she outlined the plans of her ministry. ###
